Thanksgiving Side Dishes a la Romania

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, here’s a quick round-up of some Romanian recipes that would pair perfectly as accompaniments to your Turkey!

Starters

Pâine De Ţară {Country Bread}

Bread is an absolute must when it comes to Thanksgiving and sopping up all the delicious juices and gravies.

Main

Mujdei De Usturoi {Garlic Sauce}

Step aside cranberry sauce! Dip your turkey in this garlic sauce for a complimentary zinger that contrasts the sweetness of the turkey.

Conopidă cu Brânză {Cauliflower Casserole with Cheese}

I don’t know about you, but when I think of Thanksgiving, I think of casseroles galore! And the ooey-gooey-ier the better! Replacing pasta or potatoes with cauliflower, but loading up on cheese, this casserole is still as dense and divine as any other Thanksgiving side dish.

Dessert

Gomboti / Găluște cu Prune {Plum Dumplings}

Plums are the perfect fall fruit, especially when hugged by a gooey potato dough and rolled in a delicate blend of breadcrumbs and sugar. Most of the sweetness comes from the plums themselves. It’s like dessert gnocchi that you’ll keep going back for more!

Placinta cu Mere {Romanian “Apple Pie” Cake}

There are a few pie staples on a Thanksgiving dessert table, including the warm and cinnamon-infused apple pie. If you love the combination of tartness and sweetness, give this twist on the traditional recipe, you’re sure to love this apple pie CAKE.
